Fashion Technology Park can become a focal point to an economic revolution in this region by fulfilling the primary needs of Fashion Business.

It is a well-recognized fact that Design is the convergent force for fashion business. The more powerful the convergent force, the greater the velocity of the fashion business. Designing is not only about creativity, it is also about successful execution of that design. Here factors like suitable raw materials (fabrics and accessories); appropriate costing and pricing; quality and right time of delivery ensure that the design becomes successful in terms of Production and Merchandising. The design passes through many stages to complete the cycle of “Concept to Consumer”.

Another fact that needs to be appreciated is that though we might understand the magnitude of role of Designing in this trade, not everybody (designers or organizations) is able to create an infrastructure to do justice to this aspect. The cost involved in setting up this infrastructure becomes huge when one considers the expense of traveling to fairs and markets, subscribing to journals and global forecast agencies, collecting samples and engaging personnel who can translate the information as per buyer requirements. This also involves linkages with raw material suppliers and a whole set up of sampling section to finally convert the idea into a real-time garment, as that is what the buyer would finally approve.

FTP recognizes the significance of each aspect of this trade and appreciates the critical role of Designing. It therefore is creating and developing a Mega Project where Designing is given an enormous platform. Facilities and Services are being created to congregate all elements and aspects of Fashion Business under one umbrella.

FTP will also be filling the void for those organizations which do not have their own design set up by creating a “CentralizedState – of – art Design Centre” that will house all facilities of Designing, Forecasting, and Sampling. There will also be imminent designers to guide and translate the concepts to reality

To prepare this system we have conducted several seminars of top fashion business professionals including five foreign scholars. Apart from this, our company has conducted a Global Fashion Business research jointly with CII and Ernest & Young. From all these researches and seminars a central theme had come up which triggered off the establishment of this project. So we have put forward a firm and a very wise step towards creating a strong network of Fashion Technology.

According to us, the first and foremost requirement is of the design centre, large enough to accommodate several hundred designers along with thousands of  support workers in their design studios. The design studios will be named as D.P.O’s (Design Processing Outsourcing). To build a composite infrastructure we are covering a huge area of about 17, 00,000 sq.ft. Further, we will get designers from India and all over the world.  Our designers would be renowned names in the industry, new talents and students. There would also be designers who have Indias rural or tribal heritage background with requisite experience and exposure. At FTP we will make all possible efforts to get the best results.

To create a superior atmosphere at FTP we are constructing buildings conforming to LEED system of GreenBuilding Council of U.S.A. We are also in the process of forming a body of well educated professionals from required fields. We are also sourcing machines and equipment of latest technology to make a complete support system to designers and total fashion business. It is our firm belief that a designer should be given a hassle free atmosphere at FTP so that all his ground work is done at one single point. In this way the designer’s mind will become free and fertile to get the best out in creativity.

Global Fashion Business is an endeavor to bring the world fashion leaders to FTP. For this purpose, we are going through a very large media campaign throughout the world. FTP will further assist the designers within FTP to negotiate business.

We are also setting up a complete facilitation centre which will be a chain of designers, traders, manufacturers riding on it to reach the fashion business world.

It is also a strong viewpoint of the professionals that the Indian designers in FTP will be able to generate a lot of business from overseas designers in the areas of design detailing prototyping, pattern making, sample preparing and other related services. In the same manner as Indian Software Professionals get such business of Software Design being cost effective.

Presently India is getting huge business from Computer Software Industry, FTP will provide similar service to the Fashion Industry. The Computer Software Industry serves only 5% of the population, where as Fashion Business is related with very large population. This indicates the volume of business FTP can generate.

With this view FTP has targeted to spend on promotion through fashion shows, get together of eminent fashion personalities in famous fashion capitals of the world like London, Paris, Milan, Germany, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai, New York etc. FTP is also reaching the fashion houses and fashion designers of the world through com computers, televisions, newspapers and magazines. This endeavor will definitely get large volume of business to the designers, traders and manufacturers in the FTP.

Our research says that the customers as well as designers, globally, want a revolutionary change in their designs. This can happen by creating designs which are a mix of different cultures. India is one of the prominent ancient cultural countries among such countries like Turkey, China, Egypt, etc, with a rich heritage of crafts and techniques. So in this want of Fusion of designs, FTP will play a vital role. To accomplish this task FTP has started creating a pool of skilled artisans, primarily rural women. The training work to upgrade the skill set of the art and craft artists has already started. They are being trained in embroidery work on clothes, natural dyes, and leatherwork with embroidery on leather shoes, engraving on metal and wood and all types of jewellery work. FTP is taking the lead in craft working from the ancient times of India such as textile (Silk & cotton) leather, wood and metal stories. This work force will be available to fulfill the requirement of the world fashion houses whatever the size of their requirement maybe.

FTP is also preparing for a complete network of machine made items in craft as well as other items made from cotton & Silk, leather and metals. FTP is working on the strategy that fashion products should be made of design input right from the base of the material. For example, cotton, silk, bamboo fiber or woolen products design should be initiated from fiber because research reveals that one kilogram of Indian fashion textile items fetch 10 to 12 US dollars where as the Italian or other European same quantity fashion textile items get 120 to 140 US dollars. The difference in profit is due to lack of designing from fiber state in India. Presently, the Indian designers lack the resources to get this process initiated from the fiber state. However, FTP will make it possible.

At FTP large volumes of business are going to be generated as FTP is also arranging connectivity to huge number of fashion houses and fashion personalities around the globe. Along with this, FTP is also going to provide large number of facilities taking into consideration all of the above mentioned points. We are focusing on deriving a system in the FTP where designers, exporters/ retailers and manufactures of apparel, fabrics and fibers, leather, metal or wooden items can get together and find out as to how their business can flourish. These components together will become one unit in FTP and will definitely achieve one goal i.e. large volume of fashion business in the same way as global companies do.
